Latin American Society of Chagas
In response to the lack of knowledge of Chagas disease and lack of access to treatment for existing patients in our community we have established a non-profit organization LASOCHA with Jenny Sanchez as President and Dr. Rachel Marcus as Medical Director.
LASOCHA has collaborated with Chagas researchers from John Hopkins University, the National Institutes of Health, and Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Our staff has also worked with the Bolivian embassy in the Metro-DC area and with the Inova health system in Virginia. LASOCHA has helped to screen more than 2,400 patients for Chagas disease. We are very grateful for the support of Medstar Washington Hospital Center Clinical Labs, Inbios, INOVA health system, Tu Familia Clinic, Robert Gilman, Mundo Sano, Exeltis, and Susan Montgomery at the CDC.
